You’re invited to welcome in the time of the Wurridjal (mullet) along the river and to acknowledge the importance of this annual event to Aboriginal people.

Join Cooks River communities at Marrickville Golf Club from 6pm for a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony, music and games for the kids. This is a family friendly event. Bring a picnic blanket or grab a chair and gather round by the river.

 

Schedule:

 

6:00pm  Music provided by Sunny Bins Solar Sound Systems

6:15pm Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony

6:45pm Wurridjal lantern instruction and games, provided by Garden Games

8:00pm Closing

Food and drinks available until 8:30pm, from Wharf Street Kitchen

Accessibility:

 

The welcome event is located on flat ground, on the fairway at Marrickville Golf Club.

The clubhouse can be accessed via a wheelchair ramp. Accessible toilets are available near the event and in the clubhouse.

 

Getting there:

 

Public Transport

The 423 bus route accesses the Club via Illawarra Road. The bus stops are a short 5 minute walk from the club. For timetables and more info, check out transport.info.

Active Transport:

The Club is conveniently located along the Cooks River Cycleway. Visitors can walk, cycle or scoot from Tempe train station to the East or Dulwich Hill train station to the west. Bike racks are available at the Club.

Car:

Limited parking is available in the Club car park. Part of the car park will be closed during the event. It is recommended to take public transport, active transport or a ride share service.
