The Cooks River Alliance and BirdLife Australia are calling on local residents to spend 20 minutes taking part in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count this October. You can count birds wherever you are – in your backyard, on the river, in a park or in the street – during National Bird Week from 22-28 October.
Download the specially designed BirdCount app which helps you to identify local birds based on size, colour and location. The aim is to count more than 2 million birds across Australia in seven days. Help the Cooks River catchment be among the country’s top counters!

- Cup & Saucer Creek Wetland (beside Heynes Reserve, Canterbury)
- Landing Lights Wetland
- Chain of Ponds Reserve, Strathfield

Photo and Video Competition Terms and Conditions
1. Photo or video (maximum 30 seconds) must be taken in the Cooks River catchment area (see this map) and include one or more birds.
2. Post your photo to Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #birdsoftheCooks
3. Tag the Cooks River Alliance Facebook page @CooksRiverAlliance or Instagram page @cooks_river
4. Alternatively, email your photo or video and the location it was taken to info@cooksriver.org.au
5. You can enter the photo and/or video competition as many times as you wish
6. Competition opens at 12.00pm October 3rd 2018 and closes 11.59pm November 4th 2018
7. Prizes will be awarded to the photo and video judged the best entry
8. We respect the intellectual property rights of others. All images submitted to this competition remain the property of the photographer and the Cooks River Alliance does not own your photograph. However, everything shared using the above tags and hashtags may be published on the Cooks River Alliance website and our social media platforms, and may be used on promotional screens and in Cooks River Alliance publications and/or at events.
